Rabbi Helen Bar-Yaacov
Rabbi
Bar-Yaacov was born in Uzbekistan and then moved to Melbourne, Australia
with her family when she was a small child. As a youngster, she
studied at Yiddish "schule" in the mornings where she learned Jewish history
and culture and Zionist Hebrew school in the afternoons. Following
University, her studies led her to Israel and eventual citizenship.
Rabbi Bar-Yaacov taught in various educational settings in Israel, including 12 years as an Elderhostel teacher, and was certified as a licensed tour guide. It was on one of her tours for an American group, that a rabbi from New York talked to her about becoming a rabbi. She decided to heed this advice and was ordained from Hebrew Union College in New York in 2002.
To contact the rabbi, you can email her at rabbihby@templeabi.org.
