Rabbi Barry Friedman

Born and raised in eastern Pennsylvania, Rabbi Barry R. Friedman grew up
within the Reform Jewish movement and was strongly influenced by Temple
Youth Groups and Reform summer camps. At age fifteen, he decided to
become a rabbi, and pursued this goal by studying philosophy as an
undergraduate at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA, from which he
graduated in 1968.
He
then studied for the rabbinate at the Cincinnati and Jerusalem campuses of
the Hebrew Union college-Jewish Institute of Religion and was ordained in
1973. Rabbi Friedman continued his studies at the Pittsburgh Theological
Seminary and received his Doctor of Ministry degree in 1982. Rabbi
Friedman was honored by his alma mater, Hebrew Union college-Jewish
Institute of Religion, with a Doctor of Divinity degree in 1998.
Rabbi Friedman’s
model of the synagogue is as a holy congregation which nurtures within each
member an awareness of the Divine. He enjoys teaching and sharing his
love and appreciation of our Jewish heritage and tradition with people of
all ages. To contact the rabbi, you can email him
